As we began, "In the beginning.... "
Although the number Adam wasn't created on day 1, he still was the first person (even though we're not on number 1 either). A is the first letter, Adam was the first human.
And... although the Bible doesn't say the apple was the forbidden fruit, that's what we generally associate it as - so the apple is part of our lesson guides this week.
One activity that's fun for little ones to participate in, and yummy to eat is applesauce. (Just be sure to point out that the apples are not forbidden!) :)
Here's a couple of recipes:
Recipe 1
- 4 medium cooking apples (1 1/3 lb.), peeled and cut into fourths
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar or 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
Heat apples and water to boiling in a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally; reduce heat.
Simmer uncovered 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up apples, until tender.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling. Boil and stir 1 minute.
1 serving - 1/2 cup. 90 calories. Diet exchange 1 1/2 fruit.
Recipe 2
- 3 to 4 sweet apples, peeled and cored.
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Cut apples into quarters - then the quarters in half. Place in saucepan, adding water and cinnamon - cover and simmer for 20 minutes (or until tender). Mash with a potato masher or fork, or beat in blender. Cool and eat.

Okay, we're starting up tomorrow and I'm trying to not let the perfectionist in me take over. I don't have all my boards finished for board time yet, but we're going ahead this week anyway. I'm going to try and concentrate on the most important part first and foremost, and I DO have a Bible so we'll start now with what we have and work our way into the rest. Blessings to everyone else who will be starting tomorrow!
